ABOUT THE COMPANY
The Kalamazoo Youth Ballet is Ballet Kalamazoo's performance group of dedicated youth dancers.
The weekly company class and performance experience bring the dancers together to strengthen their dance training and ability to work as a team.
Ballet Kalamazoo’s concept of inclusion empowers our instructors and students to drive the creative process. Instead of the Artistic Director having dominance over decisions, we work as a collaborative team. Everyone participates; everyone has a voice. We are always looking to the future, and our priority is steadfastly what is best for the overall development of our students.
When we write and choreograph Ballet Kalamazoo's original ballets, it is our goal to make our ballets approachable to a diverse audience; one that may not have a background in fine arts. Truly, for many families in our audience, this may be their first ballet production.
It is important to provide our students a wide range of learning experiences and performances opportunities; therefore, our dancers are given the opportunity to train with talented instructors and choreographers like Seyong Kim, Sarah Lane, Skylar Brandt, Juliet, and Krista-King Doherty. Our students also engage with emerging young artists like Nirvan Singh, Aliya Kosten, and James C. Felton II.
Our students are inspired and understand there is equal opportunity for everyone to succeed in their goals.
Dancers wishing to join the Kalamazoo Youth Ballet must be between 9 and 17yrs old and have been a student at Ballet Kalamazoo for a minimum of 1 year.
