Summer Training at Ballet Kalamazoo
Summer is where dancers grow.

During the school year, dancers focus on learning choreography and progressing through levels.
Summer is different. It is when strength develops, coordination settles, and confidence begins to feel natural instead of forced.
Without the pressure of school responsibilities dancers have the space to repeat, understand, and truly absorb their training which makes the next season feel easier, calmer, and more successful.

Our summer programs are organized by stage of development so families can clearly choose what will best support their dancer.
Summer is not a break from training. It is what makes training work.

Some of the best adventures don’t happen far away… they happen right in the ballet studio.
In this playful week, the studio transforms into a world where balloons float forever and the floor turns into oceans, mountains, and tiny islands to explore together. Each day begins with a new game that slowly blossoms into a dance built from laughter, teamwork, and imagination.

Dancers learn ballet technique while pretending, storytelling, and discovering how movement can express excitement, silliness, bravery, and joy. Confidence grows naturally as children realize they can create whole worlds with their dancing and ideas.

The week ends with a sweet in-studio sharing where families are invited into the children’s imaginary world.

Each day dancers journey deeper into the forest following sparkling trails, greeting butterfly friends, and learning to glide, float, and twirl like the magical creatures who live there. Ballet steps are introduced through story and music, allowing children to move with grace while still feeling free and imaginative.

As the week unfolds, dancers gather courage, kindness, and confidence, discovering that magic isn’t only in fairytales but can be created in our everyday lives.

Families are invited at the end of the week to watch a magical celebration created by the dancers.
Perfect for dreamers, animal lovers, and children who carry a little wonder wherever they go.

The castle doors are opening, and preparations have begun for a most important celebration.
In the royal ballet studio, dancers whisk and sprinkle through movement, learning about dance and what it means to be themselves because they are so, so special. As the days pass, the studio fills with music, curtsies, bows, and pirouettes as everyone prepares for a royal tea party.

Ballet foundations are woven into storytelling so children learn posture, rhythm, and coordination discovering the world of ballet. The week concludes with a performance in our magical kingdom where families are welcomed into the castle for a glimpse of the celebration.

Performance Lab Summer Training Program
The Performance Lab helps dancers feel steady and confident onstage by strengthening the skills that make technique reliable.

In this focused class, dancers practice turns, jumps, musicality, and finishing details at performance speed while learning how to stay calm and recover when things don’t go perfectly. The goal is steady, reliable dancing the kind that shows in auditions, competitions, and performances.

This is a training environment with frequent corrections and repetition. Dancers should already be comfortable in their current ballet level and ready to work with focus.

What it is: technique + performance skills
What it isn’t: choreography rehearsal or a competition team commitment

Senior dancers may also add the optional Pointe Technique Lab to build strength and control on pointe.
